8th November 2023 - Press Releases and Statements

The West Midlands Imaging Network (WMIN) celebrates World Radiography Day by recognising and supporting the hard work and commitment of our radiographers, radiologists and all other imaging colleagues across the 15 NHS Trusts in the region.

Radiographers take images of patients using a variety of imaging equipment such as X-Rays, MRIs or CT scanners. Imaging plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and management of a variety of conditions and investigations touch almost every part of the patient pathway and supports effective care.

In the West Midlands 9 out of 10 patients who attend hospitals need a scan. The imaging teams welcome patients and walk them through the process. World Radiography Day, 8th November 2023, celebrates all the staff working in imaging. There are staff shortages in this area which contributes to long waiting lists in the region.

In order to raise the profile of Radiology and Imaging services, the network will be releasing a series of video shorts from staff on the frontline letting everyone know what they enjoy about their roles and any advice they would give to anyone considering a career in imaging. These videos will be released weekly until the New Year, and can be found on the network’s X account (formerly Twitter) @WMImagingNwk and website: wmidsimagingnetwork.nhs.uk

NHS staff experiences of working in Radiology services:

“I enjoy interacting with people, the staff and patients alike. I think it’s somewhere that anybody would enjoy working.”

“Everyday is interesting and you never stop learning. It makes the role interesting and I do think that Radiology is the place to be.”
