Ophthalmology

Image for Ophthalmology

The outpatient service has relocated to Russells Hall Hospital from the Guest Outpatient Centre and provides a service for all types of eye conditions for both adults and children.

This service includes a full ocular examination and documentation if necessary (e.g. photography of the back of the eye), scanning and mapping, and provides orthoptic and low vision services.

Any surgical or laser intervention will be explained by the ophthalmic nursing team following consultation and a provisional date for the procedure given.

Surgery is performed Monday to Friday on the day case units at Russells Hall and Corbett Hospitals where the majority of patients have their surgery performed under local anaesthetic and are discharged home soon after their surgery. Referrals to the clinic are made through GPs, Opticians or the emergency department.
