I currently work on the acute inpatient wards where I assess and support patients with swallowing and/or communication difficulties. I get to work with people with a wide range of conditions where speech, language or swallowing is implicated including COPD, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and various other neurological conditions.
I have also previously worked in outpatient/community settings which have provided me with a good awareness of how patients can be, and might need to be supported post hospital discharge.
A caring and holistic approach to patient contact is a really important value of mine, whether it be focused on rehabilitation, compensation/adaptation or end of life care.
