Educational rationale

Many of us learn best by ‘doing’. A drugs chart can be a dangerous weapon. Rather like teaching pilots to fly with simulation, we wish to adopt a learning method for our trainees as close to real life as possible, whilst in the safety of the classroom. The way this course is designed is to get junior doctors and pharmacists to do exactly what they should do in real life – fill in drugs charts accurately, logically, rationally and cost effectively.

Many trainees have an extensive theoretical knowledge of drugs and therapeutics, yet have little confidence when faced with an empty prescription chart on the ward. Our simulation practical prescribing course is a way of bridging the gap between ‘knowing how’ and ‘doing’.
