Resident doctor industrial action: What you need to know

We understand that hearing about industrial action can cause worry – especially if you or a loved one need care. But please be assured your NHS is still here for you.

During the upcoming resident doctor industrial action which is taking place from 7am on Tuesday 7 April to 7am Monday 13 April, we’ve put plans in place to minimise disruption and ensure safe care continues.

• If you need to be seen, care is available.

• If your appointment or clinic has been cancelled or rescheduled, we will contact you directly. If you haven’t heard from us, please attend as booked.

To help us care for everyone who needs us, please use NHS services appropriately. This ensures those in urgent need get the right care at the right time.

Here’s how to get the right support:

• Speak to your local pharmacist for fast advice on minor illnesses – no appointment needed.

• Contact your GP practice for ongoing or new health concerns that aren’t urgent.

• Use an Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) for things like sprains, minor burns or suspected broken bones.

• Call NHS 111 or visit 111.nhs.uk if you’re unsure what to do, they’ll guide you to the best option.

• In a serious or life-threatening emergency, don’t delay call 999 or go to your nearest A&E.
