Background/experience

I am delighted to have been appointed to the Council of Governors for The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust (DGFT) on behalf of the University of Wolverhampton. I was born, raised and educated in the Black Country, and I am a proud single mother to two children.

As a Principal Lecturer and Head of Access and Widening Participation, I am responsible for overseeing the management of recruitment of students across the School of Nursing. Alongside this I drive all access and widening participation projects, including managing all Level 3 provision, to ensure opportunities are available for all to train as a healthcare professional. I am also Chair of the Women’s Staff Network and lead on a number of Equality and Diversity initiatives.

I am a Board Member of a local registered provider of Social Housing and Chair of their Customer Service Oversight Committee and the Customer and Complaints Champion.

I have extensive experience working in a regulated environment and understand the complexities of adhering to multiple requirements and different types of legislation. I am working towards achieving a PhD in Social Work and Social Care focussing on the transferable skills of single mothers.

Background/experience

I am delighted to have been appointed to the Council of Governors for The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust (DGFT) on behalf of Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council.

I was born in Birmingham, and I grew up in Smethwick. I moved to Halesowen in 1965 and I have lived there ever since. I have three daughters, four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

I retired in 1990. I spent most of my working life as an engineer. In the last four years of my working career, I was a manager on a project that offered work to people seeking employment.

I started my service to the community in the 1970s when I served as a local councillor from 1970 – 1974. From 1974 I continued to be involved with the local community and started serving again as a local councillor in 2004. I held the position of Mayor for the Dudley Borough from 2018 – 2019. I have now been awarded the Freedom of the Dudley Borough.

I have been a member of different committees with the Camping and Caravanning Club since 1971 and served as a Director of the Club for the past 23 years.

I look forward to serving our community further as a Governor of the DGFT.
