ReSPECT
Dudley has made the decision to embrace and adopt the ReSPECT process in our health and care community. As its heart, the ReSPECT process is about improving care outcomes and patient experience, in accordance with a person’s wishes as far as possible, and enabling productive conversations between patients and clinicians about emergency, urgent and end-of-life care in a variety of care settings.
It is important that all professionals involved in implementing the ReSPECT process are committed to involving people fully in realistic and person-centred decisions about their care, in a spirit of shared understanding.
What is ReSPECT?
ReSPECT stands for Recommended Summary Plan for Emergency Care and Treatment. It is a process and a form.
ReSPECT is about creating personalised recommendations for someone’s clinical care in emergency situations where they are not able to make decisions or express their wishes.
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of sensitive and well-structured conversations about someone’s realistic care choices and for there to be shared understanding between professionals, patients and their families.
