Pregnancy Day Assessment Unit (PDAU)

The Pregnancy Day Assessment Unit provides care for pregnant women who have concerns or complications after the 20th week of pregnancy.

Concerns that may be addressed in the Pregnancy Day Assessment Unit include:

  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes in pregnancy
  • Baby’s growth
  • Baby’s movements

You can contact the Pregnancy Day Assessment Unit if you are worried about your pregnancy on 01384 244586.

You can also be referred to the unit by your community midwife or GP.

Please note that you may be required to wait before being seen in the Pregnancy Day Assessment Unit.

On arrival

Please give details of your concerns on arrival so that your care can be prioritised if neccessary. You may be required to remain in the department for two hours or more to ensure that all the necessary tests are completed and results obtained.

We advise that you attend the unit with another adult.

Unfortunately we cannot allow children on the unit. Please make alternative arrangements for your childern if you need to attend.

The usual opening times for the Pregnancy Day Assessment Unit are:

  • Monday to Friday – 8.00am to 7.00pm
  • Saturday and Sunday – 10.00am to 2.00pm

Any problems out of those hours should be referred to the Maternity Triage Team on 01384 456111 extension 3053.

The Pregnancy Day Assessment Unit is situated at Russells Hall Hospital, Ground Floor, East Wing, and is in the Women & Children’s Outpatients Department.
