How to access the service
Ladies need to have been seen by a GP/midwife or other hospital department and referred to the Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic before an appointment can be made. Every effort is made to see ladies either on the same day or within 24 hours of referral. During busy times, however, it may be necessary to prioritise cases and offer the most suitable available appointment time.
At the appointment, ladies are seen by a nurse who will take a full history, provide a clinical assessment and a scan will be performed if indicated. The early pregnancy nurse will review the findings with the patient and provide any necessary information, management, follow up, support and counselling.
It is important to bring any hand held pregnancy notes with you.
You are welcome to bring your partner, a friend or family member with you but please be advised that only one person will be allowed to accompany you in the scanning room.
Unfortunately children under the age of 16 years will not be permitted into the scanning room; therefore, it may be advisable for you to arrange appropriate childcare if you need it.
Please attend for a scan with a full bladder.
