Compassionate nursing leader recognised with prestigious NHS England award

Associate Deputy Chief Nurse Philippa Brazier of The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust has received a prestigious NHS England Silver Chief Nursing Officer Award in recognition of her outstanding leadership in nursing, commitment to patient care and support for NHS colleagues.

The award was presented by Regional Chief Nurse Nina Morgan and forms part of NHS England’s national Chief Nursing Officer Awards programme, which celebrates nurses and midwives who consistently demonstrate exceptional compassion, leadership and commitment to patient care.

Receiving the award, Philippa said:
“It was a real honour and humbling experience to receive this prestigious award, especially being presented by the regional Chief Nurse Nina Morgan.”

Reflecting on her career in nursing, Philippa spoke about the importance of compassion and advocacy in healthcare.

“Nurses support people at some of the most vulnerable, anxious and significant moments of their lives, often when individuals and families need compassion, reassurance and advocacy,” she said.

“Nursing can make such a difference to patients in all aspects of their care.”

Philippa also spoke about her passion for supporting and developing nursing teams.

“What I enjoy most is seeing nurses grow in confidence, capability and professionally,” she said.

“Supporting nursing teams is about creating the right environment for people to do their very best work, where they feel valued, listened to and safe to speak up.”

When asked what inspired her to pursue a career in nursing, Philippa said her passion for caring for others has remained at the heart of everything she does.

“I think deep down, I enjoyed caring for people, so I just applied for nursing after college,” she said.

“Now after all my years, I am still passionate about nursing and it continues to be a profession that challenges, inspires and motivates me.”

The Silver Chief Nursing Officer Award is one of the NHS’ highest professional recognitions for nurses and midwives, celebrating individuals who make an exceptional impact within healthcare and their local communities.
