Dudley Group makes waves at Himley Dragon Boat Race

The Dudley Group NHS Charity helped raise an incredible £12,000 at this year’s legendary Himley Dragon Boat Race, following a fun-filled day of fundraising, teamwork and community spirit on Sunday.

Battling through torrential weather conditions, the annual event, organised by the Wolverhampton Rotary Club, saw nearly 40 teams take to the water, including five boats representing the charity made up of Trust staff and one headline sponsor boat from the Jack Wolf Group; with the latter coming in the top 8 teams overall!

Among the teams taking part were staff raising money for the Trust’s Children’s Emergency Department, with funds helping to purchase sensory toys and equipment to better support children with additional needs during visits to the department.

Another team was fundraising to support the Corbett and Dudley Guest Outpatient Centres, helping to create a more comfortable and positive experience for patients attending appointments.

The charity’s lively fundraising tent proved popular throughout the day, with the tombola attracting participants and visitors alike. Families also enjoyed meeting Aati the Fox, who made a special appearance and posed for photographs with children attending the event.

Nithee Patel, from Dudley Group NHS Charity, said: “Taking part in the Dragon Boat Race for a second year was an incredible experience and it was fantastic to see so many colleagues, supporters and local businesses come together to support our charity.

“The atmosphere throughout the day was brilliant and we are so grateful to everyone who donated, volunteered and cheered our teams on. Every pound raised will help us continue supporting our staff, patients and services across the Trust.”

The charity was also supported by sponsors IPL Plastics and Barratt Homes, whose backing helped make the day possible.

This marks the second consecutive year that the Dudley Group NHS Charity has been involved in the Himley Dragon Boat Race, with this year’s event proving to be the charity’s biggest and most successful presence yet.

Richard Summers, Operations Director for the Jack Wolf Group, said, “We were proud to support Dudley Group NHS Charity and be part of such a positive community event. The teamwork, enthusiasm and support shown throughout the day was amazing to see and we’re delighted to have contributed towards such important causes.”

The Dudley Group NHS Charity raises fund to support staff wellbeing initiatives and help the Trust continue delivering excellent patient care across the organisation.
