What do I need to bring?


Please bring with you:

  • Pregnancy Notes
  • List of medicines
  • Toiletries
  • Emergency contact number(s)
  • Name of current GP

If in labour please bring with you:

  • Any medication prescribed by your GP or consultant
  • Nightwear (nightie, dressing gown, slippers) and an old, comfortable/loose garment for delivery
  • Underwear (disposable ones for after the birth)
  • A bath towel, hand towel and flannel
  • Toiletries
  • Maternity-sized sanitary towels
  • Maternity bra
  • Newborn-size nappies
  • Cotton wool
  • About three sets of baby clothes, vests, baby-grows (without feet, if possible, as these can obscure identity labels), scratch mittens, cardigan
  • A hat – it is important to ensure your baby is warm. A hat may be put on your baby straight after birth, as babies lose a lot of body heat through the head
  • Magazines/books and a pen

What NOT to bring with you

Please do not bring the following into hospital with you:

  • Your children on admission
  • Large amounts of money
  • Valuables
  • Electrical items
  • Alcohol
  • Tobacco
  • Anyone with infection or diseases
